Separating cotton balls from the seeds of the local fruit tree kapas (cotton) sanglay with the use of pairs of bamboo sticks, which is “Batbatin” for Iloko term. VIVA VIGAN! Binatbatan festival was been popularly known and emerged to be one of the largest, grandest and most important event or cultural gathering located at up north Philippine Archipelago. It marks the unforgettable and amazing industry of abel weaving that is a great pride of Vigan which existed even before Spaniards came to colonize Philippines.


According to the source of Damaso King’s writings, who isa a well-known and wise historian, Viva Vigan Binatbatan Festival of the Arts celebrated from the last week of April to the first week of May was originally the Feast of the Natives that began on May 3, 1883.  Furthermore by the times passed by, the celebration was started in 1993 by the Save Vigan Ancestral Homes Association, Inc. (SVAHAI) to promote awareness of the value and spread the information of the historic town, which was hoped to strengthen resolve to preserve, protect, responsibly improve the heavenly heritage site. The blissful, valuable and exceptional festival of arts has been successful in drumming up attention for Vigan’s ancestral houses for many years. With the sincere  guidance & help of national and local agencies, as well as media, arts and non-governmental supporters, the festival has also succeeded in promoting other aspects of Vigan. Binatbatan festivals also holds the power of puroses including the promotion of awareness of the value of the historic town, which was hopes to be strengthen resolve to preserve and protect this heritage site. Maintaining the popularity of the whole tourism industry of the northern region, bringing in tens of thousands of local and foreign tourists curious to explore and feel the vibe of Northern experiences.


Many astounding activities and amazing highlights was created and lively done by people including the Tres de Mayo, Food and Traid Fair, Abel House Décor, Arts & Paintings, Kalesa Parade, various enjoyable competitions and more gigs that are endeed mesmerizing, entertaining and fascinating. The wonderful highlight which are Street Dancing, showcasing of talents, gigs and games gives awesomeness, exciting and extraordinary vibe of the celebration. Due to the pandemic which strict regulations and proper conditions are implemented, the celebration altered into something new. It may be sad not to witness the amazing experience of celebrating the festival for the safety and security of our health but it can be celebrated virtually that turn into a memorable moments.
